Professional Empowerment

Once upon a time I was Head of Decision Support Excellence on a 6-figure income in a large telco firm (that means financial analysis to you and me). I thought I was happy and successful. But when I lost my job, I lost my identity because my success was intrinsically tied up with money and achievement.  Without it I was nothing.  I was unemployed for around 6 months until one day I landed a great contract – a position as Senior Vice President for Strategy and Planning. I should have been overjoyed, but I felt as if I was heading for my own execution. That’s when I knew.

There’s tons of stuff around about escaping the 9-5; but there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with the 9-5. Because escaping the 9-5 isn’t just about putting your business online (although if that’s what you want I can suggest several mentors), it’s an idealogy to live life to the full, doing what only you can do best and doing only what makes you happy.

His once vivacious brain has been dulled; a hollow shell that rattles as he walks, mainly due to his monotonous trade. We are children of an era which educated […]

Escaping the 9-5…. His & Hers

Escaping the 9-5…. His & Hers

I was once asked to write an article about how we escaped the 9-5. To tell you the truth it’s still ongoing as we find different ways to reinvent ourselves. You don’t just escape, you have to keep escaping. The world does have a way of dragging you back. And of course part of our […]
